Rennes (France), September 06, 2017 – TeamCast, the world-renowned leader in digital modulation technologies for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), Wireless Transmission and Satellite Applications, is bringing additional flexibility to DAB network architectures with the support of the Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) format on its well established Green4DAB modulators.
Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) is a standardised protocol enabling IP packets to be carried on a DVB-S/S2 satellite link, in a flexible and efficient way. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a standardised IP format for distributing a DAB signal from the network head-end to the transmitters.
TeamCast’s powerful Green4DAB modulator has been supporting widely-used input standards such as ETI (Ensemble Transport Interface) over G703 or satellite, and EDI over Ethernet for a long time.
With its embedded satellite demodulator and with the new GSE de-encapsulation feature, Green4DAB now supports signal distribution over satellite with the benefits of both EDI and GSE in terms of low overhead and operational flexibility, when compared to ETI over satellite.
“When enabled in the transmitters, this optional feature is compatible with any DAB network head-end equipped with a DVB-S/S2 modulator offering the GSE encapsulation protocol, such as TeamCast’s renowned VYPER family. It not only increases the range of input formats supported by the Green4DAB modulator, but also brings greater flexibility to network operators’ infrastructures” says Eric PINSON, Head of Business Unit at TeamCast.
The Green4DAB modulator with its embedded GSE satellite receiver will be shown at IBC 2017 on TeamCast’s stand #2.B51.
