Baltimore, MD (September 6th, 2017) – TeamCast and OneMedia, in partnership with the Sinclair Broadcast Group, announce Phase Two of the successful ATSC 3.0 over the air trials in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. This second phase expands the scope of the trial network by adding a new transmitter feeding a second RF channel and for an increased ATSC 3.0 service capacity. This new channel will also be operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group in order to evaluate and demonstrate new services enabled by the TeamCast ST2L SFN delivery of the ATSC3.0 system.
The initial network consisted of two transmitters operating in an SFN configuration on channel 41, (one Gatesair TX in Washington D.C. and one Accrodyne IOT TX in Baltimore, MD). The network is currently fed by a TeamCast ST2L system from a Network Operating Center (NOC) located in Baltimore. The Phase Two extension will run from the beginning of July 2017 and adds a COMARK Parallax transmitter – delivering 7 kW after filter operating on a different frequency (Channel 43). This will enable additional ATSC 3.0 capabilities evaluation such as channel bonding.
Kevin Cage, EVP of Strategic Development and CTO of ONE Media, says: “With this extension of the SFN platform we built last year, ONE Media’s ATSC 3.0 technology will be used to drive a continued understanding of the value new tools bring to broadcasting. We intend this platform to be a place where the broadcast industry can unite to launch new and exciting consumer and B2B products and services”.
Eric Pinson, Business Unit Manager at TeamCast, says: “With this new trial phase, we are definitively getting closer to a mature and finalized ATSC 3.0 technology required to deploy the more sophisticated and flexible NGBP platform as proposed by ONEMedia, in partnership with Sinclair. We believe that we are definitively entering a new Terrestrial DTV Broadcasting era with a completely reconsidered network architecture based on the TeamCast ST2L interface we have implemented on our products. TeamCast is looking forward to discovering tested and proven new and additional services that will operate on top of our technology based architecture and as initiated by ONEMedia and Sinclair”.
